Vertical knobs do not work DSO4084C

I just received a new DSO4084C and I am learning how to use it. When I apply the probe to the test frequency, I can use the "auto-scale" button to center the test waveform on the screen. When I try to use the vertical dials however (both big and small), there is NO effect at all on the display. How do I manually manipulate the vertical component of the wave?

Update: After a half day of frustration, I finally figured out that the problem is that the knobs don't work at all. The unit arrived broken. I ran through the "front panel self test" and verified that they don't respond at all. Very disappointed.
